Here are all the common questions related to your natural gas utility service:
Yes. Your utility company owns the pipes in the ground so you cannot switch utility companies. You are simply having the same utility company deliver your gas from a different source.
You still call your utility company. Your utility company will always maintain your pipes in the ground and handle any emergency issues with your natural gas service.
Depends on which utility company you have.
In California, you will still receive one monthly bill from the utility company for all of your natural gas costs.
In Colorado, they require your gas source to replace your utility company's bill with the bill sent directly from your natural gas supply source. Your gas source will include your current monthly utility company costs on that same bill.
Your monthly natural gas costs are comprised of supply costs, which is most of your bill, and delivery costs. Supply costs are for the actual gas itself. Delivery costs are the regulated charges from your utility company to deliver your natural gas to your location. This program allows a better source of natural gas to provide your gas through your utility company. Nothing will change with your gas service.
Your utility company does not make any money off of your natural gas supply. It's not allowed to do so. Your utility company makes its money from delivering your natural gas. So shopping the market for the best source of your natural gas is simply not the business of your utility company. Therefore, your utility company is not incentivized to aggressively shop the market for the best supply rates. Your natural gas supplier shops the market almost daily in order to provide the best supply rates.
Below all the typical questions we receive regarding the source and cost of your gas supply.
Yes, the gas source company is licensed to supply your natural gas through your utility company. The natural gas supplier that we designate to procure your gas is registered with your utility company in their Natural Gas Choice program. The natural gas supplier is also the preferred gas source of the California Restaurant Association and Colorado Restaurant Association.
The NGC is an unaffiliated Gas Choice enrollment center that signs up customers that wish to receive their natural gas from a better source. The NGC is not part of the utility company, and our role is to ensure your gas supplier provides you with competitive rates and excellent service. The utility company is not allowed to sign-up customers in their Natural Gas Choice program so you must participate through a third party by law.
Utility companies currently buy your natural gas on a monthly basis on the open market. This means you are completely exposed to the volatility of the natural gas market, so your current gas supply rates fluctuate and could sky rocket. The gas supplier that we endorse offers programs that allow customers receive a cap on their supply rate meaning the rate will never increase for up to 36 months. Savings programs are available since the gas supplier can buy natural gas cheaper than the utility.
